چکیده

The E155 experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) has performed a precision measurementof the proton and deuteron spin structure function g 1 using deep inelastic scattering of polarized electrons on polarized 15 NH 3 and 6 LiD. g d 1 (x)dx = 0:034 0:002(stat) 0:005(syst) at an average Q 2 = 5 GeV 2 .These preliminary results are in reasonably good agreement with previous data. A large range of extrapolations can accomodate the singular behaviour of the structure function at low x , calling into question the usual methods to extrapolate to x = 0. The softer behaviour of the Bjorken sum rule allows us to test it.

Spin Structure Functions g1 and g2 for the Proton and Deuteron

The experiment E155 at SLAC measured the spin structure functions g1 and g2 of the proton and deuteron. The experiment used deep inelastic scattering of 48.3 GeV longitudinally polarized electrons incident on polarized solid 15NH3 and LiD targets. The data taken by three independent spectrometers covered a kinematic range of 0.014 < x < 0.9 and 1 (GeV/c) < Q < 40 (GeV/c). Due to the high lumino...

Spin Structure Measurements from E155 at Slac

The E155 collaboration at SLAC has collected precise polarized deep inelastic scattering data which will provide further insights into the structure of the nucleon. The SLAC 48.3 GeV electron beam was used to obtain data from both proton and deuteron targets covering 0:01 < x < 0:9 and 1(GeV=c)2 < Q2 < 40(GeV=c)2. E155 is the first high dose electron scattering experiment to use lithium deuteri...

Results and Interpretations of the Spin Structure Experiments at Slac

In the recent experiments E154 and E155 at SLAC the spin-dependent structure functions g 1 , g p 1, and g d 1 of the neutron, proton, and deuteron were measured by scattering longitudinally polarized 48:3 GeV electrons o longitudinally polarized targets. We report on the measurement of g 1 by E154, and on the preliminary results on g p 1 from E155. The SLAC results provide the most precise dete...

Polarization at Slac*

A highly polarized electron beam is a key feature for the current physics program at SLAC. An electron beam polarization of 80% can now be routinely achieved for typically 5000 hours of machine operation per year. Two main physics programs utilize the polarized beam. Fixed target experiments in End Station A study the colhsion of polarized electrons with polari~ed nuclear targets to elucidate t...
